Keeping Up with TBT

Collage of dancers dancing at home

By Mary Ashley Ray

As theaters remain closed due to COVID-19 and Texas Ballet Theater dancers head into their summer break, we at TBT are exploring new ways to stay connected to our patrons and the community. This summer, you can keep up with your favorite dancers and see what life is like offstage.

Check out the hashtags #LivingRoomBallet and #TBTatHome on Instagram to see how TBT dancers transform their homes into makeshift studios. From windowsill barres to kitchen dance floors, creativity shines as our dancers showcase their flexibility and adapt to our current environment.

On our own Instagram account @txballettheater, you’ll find a weekly segment called Teaching Tuesday. Each of these quick videos features a dancer breaking down a ballet step. They’ll explain and demonstrate the step, and next time you see TBT onstage, you may recognize a few things!

Have you ever wondered what TBT dancers enjoy outside of ballet? Tune into Time with TBT, a video series available on our YouTube and Instagram accounts. Each video focuses on one dancer, who will take you through their daily life. From gardening to parenting, animal rescue to college courses, dancers fill their days with exciting and meaningful work.

Dancers aren’t the only ones creating content – Artistic Director Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., is sharing stories from his decades-long ballet career in Poolside Chats, available on YouTube and Instagram. In these videos, he looks back on many of his incredible experiences, including working with Dame Margot Fonteyn, choreographing Cinderella and The Sleeping Beauty, and performing on the West End.

There are so many stories to share at TBT, and we’re thrilled to share them with you via social media and through our brand-new blog. Thanks for visiting our site, and stay tuned for more articles that will give you an inside look at our company.
