Lecture Demonstrations

Educating groups on the art of ballet

See Ballet in a New Way

Bring ballet to your school through Lecture Demonstrations. Lecture Demonstrations are assemblies that introduce your students to the art of ballet, typically lasting 45-60 minutes. Texas Ballet Theater dancers demonstrate the progression of a ballet dancer from class to stage. Audiences will also observe different dance styles from ballet history, including folk dancing, classical ballet, and contemporary works. At the end, the audience is invited to participate in a Q&A with the dancers.

Texas Ballet Theater can bring a Lecture Demonstration to your school for a fee. To schedule a Lecture Demonstration, please contact Community@TexasBallet.org. Your venue does not need to have a stage, but it will need to provide enough space for the dancers to adequately present and perform.

Lecture Topics

Topics discussed in Lecture Demonstrations may include:

  • Ballet History
  • French Terminology
  • Introduction to Pointe Shoes
  • Male Roles in Ballet
  • Partnering, or “Pas de Deux,” Work
  • How Stories are Portrayed Through Ballet
  • A Day In The Life of a Professional Ballet Dancer
