Originally from Liverpool, England, Carl Coomer began his training at 13 years old. In 1998, after only 3 years of dancing, Mr. Coomer was offered a scholarship to attend the Royal Ballet School, under the direction of Dame Merle Park and later Gailene Stock, where he performed with both Royal Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet. In 2001 he joined Houston Ballet. His repertoire includes a wide variety and range including lead roles in Ben Stevenson’s Giselle, Dracula, Four Last Songs, Three Preludes, Five Poems, Coppelia, Swan Lake, Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella; John Cranko’s Onegin; Balanchine’s La Valse, Four Temperaments; MacMillan’s Gloria; Paul Taylor’s In the Beginning; Julie Adams’s The Accidental; Stanton Welch’s Indigo, Red Earth, Blindness, Tutu; Christopher Bruce’s Ghost Dances and Hush; Glen Tetley’s Voluntaries; Hans Van Mansen’s Grosse Fuge and Jiri Kylian’s Svadebka. Mr. Coomer joined Texas Ballet Theater in 2007 and is married to Company member Leticia Oliveira.
