Now in her fifth season with Texas Ballet Theater, Diana Crowder began professional training at The Ballet School of Stamford near her hometown of Riverside, Connecticut. At 13, she was accepted to study at Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) in Toronto. After graduating from NBS with honors in 2009, Ms. Peters spent one year in the school’s Post-Secondary Program before joining Tulsa Ballet II. She has attended summer programs at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Kaatsbaan and NBS, and received scholarships for three summers at Chautauqua School of Dance, where she earned an award for her choreography in the Student Workshop in 2011. Ms. Crowder’s favorite productions include White Cat in Ben Stevenson’s The Sleeping Beauty, Ohad Naharin’s Minus 16, Glen Tetley’s Voluntaries and Ben Stevenson’s Peer Gynt.
Where are you from?
When did you begin dancing?
When I was 3 years old.
Why did you begin dancing?
Because I was a little girl at the time and my mom put me in a class. I stayed as I got older because I never wanted to stop.
When did you join Texas Ballet Theater?
What is your favorite ballet to see?
As a full length story ballet, probably Romeo and Juliet. However, I have seen many shorter, more contemporary works that have taken my breath away and inspired me that I could not list.
What is your favorite ballet to perform/what is your favorite role you have performed?
In general, performing different kinds of ballets is such a different experience that I could not compare them or pick a favorite. However, my favorite individual role to date is probably the White Cat in The Sleeping Beauty.
What surprised you the most about being a professional dancer?
I don’t think I anticipated the kind of closeness you share with your fellow dancers.

What sound do you love?
The sound of ocean waves on a beach
What is your favorite local attraction/favorite thing to do in DFW?
I love Klyde Warren Park in Dallas
Who has been most influential to your life of dancing?
My parents. They have supported me and encouraged me immeasurably.
What do you want to accomplish after TBT?
I’m not sure of all of it yet, I would like to have a second career of some kind, but I do know that I want to start a family and be a mother at some point.
