T exas Ballet Theater School is the Official School of Texas Ballet Theater. It is the long standing goal of Artistic Director Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., to develop a school of national and international importance providing the North Texas community with professional instruction in the art of classical ballet.
The School offers a nurturing environment for students ages 3-21 with skilled teachers working to meet the needs of each individual dancer. In addition, our students have the unique opportunity to observe professional classes and rehearsals while at the studio. Our curriculum is centered on classical ballet training with the addition of Modern, Jazz and Pointe at the intermediate and advanced levels to give students a well-rounded dance education. We also offer Adult "drop-in" ballet classes which are open to all ages and experience levels and do not require enrollment in the school.
Students enrolled in the school have the opportunity to showcase their talent on stage throughout the year, including Texas Ballet Theater's annual production of Ben Stevenson's The Nutcracker at Bass Performance Hall. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in the school's annual Spring Performance in late May. Students in Level 4 and up can also audition to join our Performance Group which performs classical repertoire and original choreography throughout the Fort Worth community and surrounding communities.
Texas Ballet Theater School follows the traditional August to May school calendar, with additional classes, camps and a Summer Intensive offered during the summer months.
New students can inquire about classes and register by contacting us at 817.763.0207, ext. 108 or by emailing Ashley .
Texas Ballet Theater School is proud to include the AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE ® National Training Curriculum, a breakthrough 8 level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development. The ABT® National Training Curriculum consists of a comprehensive set of age-appropriate, outcome-based guidelines to provide the highest quality ballet training to dance students of all ages and skill levels. Primary through Level 7 will be taught by ABT® Certified Teacher Kathryn Warakomsky and Primary through Level 3 will be taught by ABT® Certified Teacher Angelyn Fulton who have both successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.
T he trainee program provides essential work and performing experience to help bridge the gap from the studio to the stage. Trainees perform with the company in all major productions, as well as in smaller works as they are chosen.
Trainees are selected by Artistic Director Ben Stevenson and the Artistic staff from the National Audition tour and from Texas Ballet Theater School Summer Intensive. Trainees range in age from 15 to 21 and receive a stipend to work with the company as well as a full scholarship to train with the school.
Each morning, the trainees take technique class followed by rehearsals for upcoming performances. In the evenings and on weekends, trainees take classes with the school including ballet technique, pointe, jazz and modern dance. This program offers many learning opportunities to work with the company and see how the professionals deal with the different pressures of a performing career. At the same time, the trainees are working in a school environment where there is more nurturing and assistance with technical skills so that they may secure a job in the performing field.
TBT II was introduced in 2012 to give the trainees and apprentices a greater chance to perform leading roles in various venues throughout Dallas and Fort Worth. The year culminates with the School's Spring Performance which features trainees in classical repertoire and original choreography.
S ince 2007, nearly 60% of the trainees have received contracts from TBT. Others have gone on to careers on Broadway, Connecticut Ballet, Utah Regional Ballet, Eugene Ballet, Colorado Ballet, Sarasoto Ballet, Coastal Ballet and college.
